Igor Vieru House and Museum
Igor Vieru (1923 – 1988) was a remarkable personality in the Fine Arts World of Moldova. Together with Mihai Grecu and Valentine Rusu–Ciobanu they founded the National School of Painting. His art was impressive by its expressiveness and originality, by his deep commitment to national traditions, and by his own concept of the fundamental categories of human existence. His creative output includes over 70 paintings and 12 collections of pictures.
His most famous works are: Spring, In the native village, The Earth Ballad, Autumn, Manole, the Craftsman, etc. plus the illustrations for the following tales: Pacala si tandala, Harap Alb, The She-goat and its kids, Guguta, Prince Charming and the Sun, etc.
The artist’s home, in the village of Cernolenco, (Edinet district, over 210 km north Chisinau) has become a Museum, where visitors can get acquainted with Igor Vieru’s art.
