Itinerary: Balti – Edinet – Trinca – Corjeuti – Tetcani – Fetesti – Branzeni – Balti. 230 km.
Total time 9 hours (time on the road – 4 hours, excursions – 5 hours)
Description:
During the whole route, the tourist will acquire more knowledge about “The Island Land of the missing seas”, the second name of the toltrels.
The trip can start in Edinet town, where, near a splendid park, there is a Natural History Museum and a famous Museum of National Craftsmen, whose collection is rich in original folk objects and works. The first toltrel can be seen near Gordinesti village within an impressive narrow valley called “At the castle”. In the neighbouring village of Trinca the “river of love” Draghiste carves a deep path through the toltrels with a lot of prehistoric caves and grottoes. Another small river, the Lopatnic, passes between the two villages of Corjeuti and Caracuseni through the picturesque nature reserves “Tiglaul Mare” and “Defileul Ciuntului”. In the former Soviet Union competitions for mountaineers were organised here. The most impressive views for tourists are those near Branzeni and Fetesti, where they can see two cliffs formed from the coral reefs as evidence of the disappeared seas.
Some people call this place “The Switzerland of Moldova”. Today, in the middle of these cliffs, there are the houses and farms of the locals, who are very proud of their geological heritage.
